“Publisher’s Report: Journal Voting Recommendations”

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTORS—Since the platforms of both parties [Democrat John F. Kennedy and Republican Richard Nixon] are extremely socialistic (more government control and interference of individuals and property) the publisher is writing in the names of [Republican opponent of income tax] J. Bracken Lee, for president, and [Republican tough on Communism] General Douglas MacArthur, for vice-president. This is a means of protest only, instead of not voting at all, or taking the lesser of two evils; as Attorney General Mosk in the Los Angeles Times last week, stated that such a ballot would be ineffective for presidential only, and would not affect the rest of the ballot.
However, our Editorial staff in general is decidedly in favor of Nixon and Lodge [Henry Cabot Lodge Jr., Republican nominee for Vice President].
