"Over-Privileged Minorities"

From a letter to the Los Angeles Times

Much is being said about prejudice and discrimination nowadays, both by so-called experts and by people who know nothing about the subject.

Being a member of a minority group and having lived, worked and associated with minorities, I would like to give my opinion.

I sincerely believe that minority groups or a number of their members are, to an extent, guilty of causing whatever friction exists among different groups. For one thing, I’ve found many of them to be extremely hostile to other minority groups.

Also, many people of minority groups use the term discrimination to hide a number of defects or faults. For instance, they loaf on the job and if they are dismissed or reprimanded they immediately yell that they are the victims of discrimination and prejudice.

Persons of the majority group can’t use that weapon as an excuse for their laziness or lack of ability or common sense. If they are lazy or can’t do the job they are fired—and that’s all there is to it.

A member of a minority group, on the other hand, can go to a number of state or county agencies which will try to get him rehired. To me, this is ridiculous.

It seems that in some cases a person of a minority group is not only “equal” to the rest but actually overprivileged! Is that democracy?
