"Be a Lady"

by Laura B. Gaye

At a Women’s Club meeting recently, I was amazed at the dense fog of smoke which circulated the room. I’m sure no London fog could beat this. The women smoking during the business meeting, while speakers were on the platform, etc. I do not disapprove of women smoking... but it surely is not in the best taste to smoke during a meeting. After a meal, while having coffee, yes—but while the program is going on and thru a meeting—No. I might say that my husband informs me most men’s organizations have a rule of “no smoking” while a meeting is in progress. We who smoke should be courteous enough to the non-smoker to realize they might be allergic to smoke. In Court Rooms and Governmental Offices there is no smoking. Should our Women's Club meetings be less respected than places where there is no smoking?
